In truth, the Kickstarter pitch video came about waaaay before we found Abel. When we had the idea to do a new lightsaber video to promote the kickstarter, we were still hoping Jenny, who we'd been in touch with again in what we thought was a last-ditch attempt to get the comic up and running, would be able to do the whole thing, but things just didn't work out that way. All for the best, at the end of the day, because we couldn't be happier with the work Abel has been doing for us.
We filmed the pitch video on the weekend of September 1st, a full month before Abel applied for the job. At the time several people had already applied and we were feeling relatively confident that the comic was going to happen, so we ploughed on with the video working on that assumption. And if not, then at least we'd still have an awesome new video to show around!
It took all day Saturday and all morning on Sunday to get the filming done, with a brief period of despair as we realised Jon was never going to be able learn the script for the section of the video where we talk about the project, until we realised we could just read the script off the TV!
It was a long, difficult but HUGELY fun weekend. It brought back all the memories of making the Unwritten Rule Trilogy in 2003 and 2004, and ramped up our excitement for the project as a whole.
Of course, I did a re-imagined version of the video for Issue 2, which you can see in the Videos section.
